Vampire
The next concept is for the vampire, the strongest undead creature in the original Chaos.
Yeah he's pretty cool for sure! I'm really liking the fact that they are in many ways very close to the original little sprites.
It must be very difficult for both you (as a massive fan of the original) and Julian to get the balance right between modernising the game and not losing the charm of the original.
Either way, from what you guys have blogged so far on both the game play mechanics and the graphics the world is going to be in for a real treat! Keep up the good work!
Thank you! You hit the nail on the head with your comment, it's indeed hard to keep the balance between these 2 things. I'm really happy with the feedback so far. It will be very interesting to see what people who never played the original think of this style.
My friend (also a fan of the original) said it looked a bit too super-hero. Maybe just a tweak to the cape but we're splitting hairs here, it looks great!
Love it! You've pulled so much character out of so little. Great work.
ReplyDeleteLooks great, although I just noticed the shading on cape looks like a cartoon bird and now I can't unsee it
ReplyDeleteOh my god, what did you do? :) Now I can't unsee it either, so I will have to do something about it later.
DeleteI'm really digging these concept pieces, they feel fresh but not too far away from the source material, nice!
ReplyDeleteWonderful, and looks stunning against the black backdrop. I do wonder how green characters on green landscapes will look.
ReplyDeleteWill you add some kind of pixel-shader 'glow' to the characters similar to the black borders around subtitles on teletext?
Very curious to see how this will look animated in 3D, with the cloak billowing and the particles and such. Reminds me a little of Killer is Dead.

DeleteVery nice indeed.
ReplyDeleteVery interesting style.
ReplyDeleteFor me it's truly beautiful!

ReplyDeleteTök jó, hogy magyarokat is látni ilyen remek játékoknál.Sok szerencsét hozzá.Amúgy mennyi idő egy ilyen karakter újítást elkészíteni?
